Nachos were invented in 1943 in Piedras Negras, Mexico, by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya. A group of U.S. military wives stationed at nearby Fort Duncan crossed the border for a shopping trip and arrived at the restaurant after closing time. Anaya improvised a snack with what he had on hand: tortilla chips, cheese, and jalapeños. The dish became popular and was named "Nacho's especiales."

Nachos are a delightful explosion of textures and tastes, balancing savory, spicy, creamy, and tangy elements.
The foundation of crispy, freshly made tortilla chips provides a satisfying crunch. Creamy refried beans offer a hearty, earthy base. Melted cheddar cheese contributes a sharp, savory richness. Cool guacamole adds a smooth, avocado flavor and texture. Sour cream provides a tangy counterpoint to the other rich flavors, while the spicy jalapeños add a kick. Finally, fresh pico de gallo contributes a vibrant, refreshing burst of tomato, onion, cilantro, and lime.

Chip Choice
Use high-quality, thick tortilla chips that can withstand the weight of the toppings without becoming soggy.
Layering is Key
Layer ingredients strategically, starting with beans and cheese, to ensure even distribution and prevent the chips from drying out.
Freshness Matters
Use fresh ingredients like homemade guacamole and pico de gallo for the best flavor and texture.
Cheese Selection
Consider using a blend of cheeses, such as Monterey Jack or a Mexican cheese blend, for a more complex flavor profile in addition to cheddar.
